Twilio Integration

SMS, WhatsApp, voice, email and verification built on Twilio, with delivery tracking, safe retries, fallbacks and clear messages for users when a text or call doesn't get through.

From a first test message to production traffic

Sending a first message with Twilio is quick. Production is harder: carrier filtering, unregistered senders, one-time codes that arrive late, status callbacks that come in twice or out of order, and costs that grow with every message segment. We build SMS, WhatsApp, voice, email and verification flows for product, support and operations teams, with delivery tracking, retries, fallbacks, registration support and clear user-facing states when a message or call doesn't get through.

AI-assisted, expert-led Twilio integration

How AI assists

  • Drafts webhook handlers and contract tests from Twilio's API reference for engineers to review
  • Generates test cases for undelivered, failed, repeated and out-of-order status callbacks
  • Groups delivery errors in logs by carrier, country and error code so patterns are easier to spot
  • Checks message templates for encoding, segment count and opt-out wording before they go out

What our experts own

  • Engineers own signature validation, idempotent callback handling and retry rules
  • API keys, subaccounts and test-versus-live separation are set up and reviewed by engineers
  • Consent, opt-out and registration details are agreed with your team; we support your compliance work
  • Go-live, sending limits and fallback channels are approved by people, not by a tool

How a Twilio message is tracked to delivery

Illustrative transactional SMS path; WhatsApp and voice use similar callbacks with their own statuses.

  1. Send request

Your app queues the message with its own ID after checking consent and the opt-out list.

Checkpoint: No send without recorded consent

  2. Twilio API call

A worker calls Twilio within your sender's limits, sets a validity period and stores the returned message SID.

  3. Status callbacks

Twilio posts queued, sent, delivered or undelivered statuses to your endpoint, which validates the request signature first.

  4. Ordered status updates

Updates match by message SID and only move forward, so a late or repeated callback can't undo delivery.

  5. Retry or fallback

Depending on the error code, the message is retried, switched to a voice call or WhatsApp, or flagged.

Checkpoint: Fallback channels agreed with your team

  6. Missed-callback check

A scheduled job fetches from Twilio any message still lacking a final status and updates your records.

When something fails: Undeliverable numbers are flagged for review; users are told the message didn't arrive and offered another channel, and error spikes alert your team.

What you receive

Twilio messaging, voice and verification

  • SMS and WhatsApp messaging

Two-way SMS and WhatsApp with status callbacks, opt-outs synced to your CRM, approved templates and segment-count checks before a campaign goes out.

  • Voice calls and IVR

Call flows, IVR menus and routing in TwiML, with fallback URLs and handling for busy lines and no-answers, so callers aren't left in silence when a step fails.

  • Email through SendGrid

Transactional email through SendGrid with templates, domain authentication, and bounce, block and spam-report handling from the Event Webhook.

  • Video rooms

Embedded video for consultations or classes, with device permission prompts, reconnection handling and clear messages when a camera or network fails.

  • Contact center with Flex

Twilio Flex queues, routing and agent views connected to your CRM, so agents see the customer's history when a call or chat arrives.

  • Verification and fraud controls

One-time codes through Verify, number checks through Lookup, plus geo permissions and rate limits that reduce SMS pumping and toll fraud.

Prepare an integration that your team can operate

  • Access and inputs

Provide the Twilio project, intended countries and channels, estimated volume, sender ownership and approved message examples. Your business confirms recipient consent, opt-out handling and required sender approvals.

  • A realistic first scope

Start with one notification, verification or support flow and its delivery callbacks. Carrier filtering, sender registration and channel approval can affect launch and delivery; confirm any alternate channel before implementation.

  • Handover and maintenance

We deliver the agreed connection, test evidence, configuration notes and recovery instructions. Assign an owner for alerts and reconciliation. Provider changes, credentials and ongoing monitoring can be maintained under an agreed support plan; provider charges remain separate.

How we deliver a Twilio integration

  1. 01

    Use cases and registration

Define message and call types, countries, volumes, consent and opt-out rules, and the sender registrations each use case needs.

  2. 02

    Delivery and failure design

Design queues, status callbacks, retries and fallbacks, such as a voice call when a code can't be texted, and what users see when delivery fails.

  3. 03

    Build and contract tests

Build with Twilio test credentials and sandboxes, then test webhooks for signatures, duplicates, delays and error codes before live traffic.

  4. 04

    Ramp-up and monitoring

Increase sending within your registered limits, with dashboards for delivery outcomes and alerts on error spikes; then continue under a support plan.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you handle high-volume messaging?

Yes, within what your senders allow. Throughput depends on sender type (long code, toll-free or short code) and registration, so we queue sends, respect Twilio's limits, set validity periods so late one-time codes expire instead of arriving stale, and alert on error spikes. We size the design to your expected volume rather than promising a fixed rate.

Do you support A2P 10DLC registration?

Yes. We help you prepare A2P 10DLC brand and campaign registration and toll-free verification for US messaging, including sample messages and opt-in flows. Approval isn't ours to give, so we plan the launch around the review and keep messages within the registered use case.

What happens when an SMS isn't delivered?

Status callbacks record each outcome against the message ID. Depending on the error, the system retries, switches channel (a voice call for a one-time code, for example) or flags the contact for review. Users see a clear message that the number couldn't be reached, with a next step, and error spikes by carrier or country trigger alerts.
